Hi, I’m Anna J, and these are my tattoos. A lot of them actually were the artist’s pick, because I like when the artist expresses themselves and they can put their creations on me. So a lot of this (this whole arm, basically), is from this woman named Linnea, and she came up with the whole concept and everything, so I look to keep it bright and colorful and vibrant, like myself, so like this here.
And then I have an apple and banana, because my nickname is Anna Banana, and so I got a little banana tattoo for that reason!
And then I have this one here. It’s a little beer can with “babes” – I have two girlfriends that have this same tattoo and we got it in Seattle when my friend moved out there.
So, yeah, a lot of this are just one-off tattoos and stuff like that. This is one of my favorites (the Halloween pumpkin design). That’s what everyone compliments me on; they always mention the one with the bikes. Hello Kitty at the wrist, and bike with flowers at the shoulder!
Thanks so much for sharing the story of your tattoos with us, Anna!
We are here at the Mpls tattoo convention. All I have to say is that if you are going to get a tattoo make sure that you get it professionally and as many professionals here that are willing to do it. Otherwise you end up with badly done home tattoos that aren’t so great
Thanks for sharing that good advice about getting tattoos!
Damon’s voice doesn’t pick up very well on a microphone, so he asked us to share the story of his tattoos in written form.
He got the tattoo on his leg because he totally loves the Simpsons. He also has a Chaos Star, which represents chaos around the world.
The Chinese character on his neck is the word for Dragon, which is the zodiac sign for the year he was born.
The tattoo on his rib cage was done by a friend of his, and he also has a tattooed design that was an original drawing by his niece.
Thanks for sharing your tattoos with us, Damon!
All right, I’m Sierra and my favorite tattoo I have is my Marilyn Manson portrait. I really love Marilyn Manson. You know that’s pretty much it. Big inspiration and looks pretty bad-ass. So yeah
Kelly-What is it about Marilyn Manson that inspires you?
He speaks a lot about perspective and I learned a lot from that. And it changed how I view a lot of things. So kudos to him for that.
Kelly-All right. So you’ve got other tattoos on your other arm?
Nope, just these two. I’ve got my pumpkins and that’s basically because I really love Halloween and it goes really well together. And of course, I have one on my back which is just some roses with the dark mark from Harry Potter cause I love Harry Potter, yeah. Not to much from that one either.
Thanks for sharing the story of your tattoo, Sierra!
My name is Mary. I got this at InkWell in Ramsey. It represents my God son. He’s my heart-he’s everything to me.
Kelly-tell me about the detail in it. I see forever…
Mary-Forever represents that I’ll always be there for him. And the roses are for the baby. I’m holding the baby and that’s what it represents
Hey, Mary, thanks a bunch for sharing the story of your tattoo!
My name is Mack L. I had my first idea was for being this tattoo was for being this. Originally was for “rock on”. So when I would do this you can’t see the thumb. Then right here in the middle is a party down. I wanted to make sure that this was showing. The original one was just rounded like a regular heart, but I wanted to jazz it up so it wasn’t so girly looking. And then I had some friends over that was a road warrior in East Bethel Minnesota do it. The guy’s name was Royce something. I’m hoping to be an artist myself, so I’m drawing up all of mine.
Thanks for sharing the story of your tattoo!
my name is Emily and I have two tattoos much to my family’s disliking. I am absolutely addicted to traveling. I want to do it for my life and I basically want to have some kind of way to document all of my journeys. So I’ve chosen to put them on my feet as a little bit of a symbolic thing as a way of stepping everywhere I take a journey on. On this foot, I have a bull because I got to live in Spain for a month with a host family that I love so dearly. But basically, they were making fun of me because my huge stereotype of Spain is that there are bulls running everywhere. And that is what American’s think it all about. So we always had this joke, that I’m the American trying to find the bulls. So now I have a bull to go with me everywhere.
And then on my other foot, I was in Ireland for two weeks after I graduated high school and I drank so much Guiness my family should be concerned. But now I’ve got a little Guiness logo to go with me everywhere to remind me of Ireland.
So that’s all I have so far.
Kelly-I wish you many more travels to many more tattoos
Emily-Yes, thank you that’s the goal. Just get them all up
Thanks so much for sharing the story of your tattoo, Emily!
Hello I’m Jim B. I’m a third generation combat vet and also a member of a group called the Dirty Dozen Christian Civil Defense Network. We are 14000 people strong all over the country and the president is based in New York. I really like the organization because they talk about prepping and being prepared for bad scenarios in the United States and mass casualty situations. As a retired combat vet, I’m involved in NPC warfare, I’ve been involved in mass casualty. I’ve worked on flight deck of a carrier and safety petty officer and these right here mean Operation Southern Watch, Operation During Freedom and Operation Rocky Freedom. I was involved in all of these campaigns. We were the ones involved Southern Freedom the ones that took out all of the missile batteries of Sadim had built and the Chinese technicians that were maintaining them. Then we were in the first three months of the Iraqi Freedom War and, of course, this led up to it. This is right after the twin towers fell and we went on the carrier. In fact, I have a real neat patch on my jacket and it shows a carrier going forward with the Twin Towers in the background in gold. Like I said, it really means a lot to me and my grandfather served in WWI and WWII. In fact, he earned his citizenship in the Coast Guard in WWI.
And that is where I got my Scottish ancestry from. This is a cross claymore and a Templar shield. And I’m also Masonic. I was involved in the D-molay and my dad was a 29 degree Mason. My Scottish side has been in this country since before the Revolutionary War and fought the Brits in the Revolutionary War and they were also on the Confederate Side during the Civil War. And, of course, every war after that. I’m about to get “In God We Trust” above this one. I am also an Enlisted Warfare Specialist and so I got the wings. I don’t need to drink Redbull, I got the wings. I’m very proud of my heritage and I’m very proud of my quart Scottish, quart English, quart Irish, quart Danish. I got the whole British Isles plus the Viking Invaders. I’m good genetics. I’m 61 years old, but feel like I’m in the 20s. I’m running for Minnesota State Senate. I’m ST 54. I’m in the Constitution Party. I’m trying to bring freedom and liberty back to this state that unfortunately has gone down the progressive road to ruin in my opinion. So that’s what I’m all about and I definitely enjoy the tattoo people because like I said they are very friendly and they are very outgoing. Like I said Minnesota Nice on steroids in my opinion.
Thanks for sharing the story of your tattoo, Jim!
I got this tattoo at Twilight Tattoo with my two good friends Abby and Sam during our visit to Abby’s hometown in St Paul Minnesota. We were fresh off the plane when we went. I was hesitant to get one as I am not a fan of random tattoos and I’d prefer to put my spin on them , but I found a simple one on the Internet that the artist was able to replicate and it came out great!
Thanks so much for sharing the picture & story of your tattoo, Precious Jo. We love the intricate detail inside the crescent moon shape!
“Hi, my name is Mai. This first one I got with my sister. She paid for it; we end up booking up for the whole twelve, fifteen, sixteen hours with him. He did a very good job with it. And then my second one was this one. I rode a motorcycle and the gal who bought it from me is … uhm… she might still have the $250 to this day. But she ended up owing me $250 and that is what she gave me in return, for payback. And this other one I had, what was it – a 650, and I ended up selling it to another gentleman who did tattoos. Exactly two years from when I got this one, and, of course, I got my kid’s name and little footprints but I ended up paying for them. (off camera: What about that square one?!?) That’s from the State Fair and that’s pretty much it.
Hi my name is Brian P and the reason I like my tattoos simply is because: One, I don’t have a stencil on at all. Everything is complete freehand between myself and my artist. It’s drawn on with two different highlighters, a sharpie and a fine black ball point pen for finer detail. So that’s one that is unique to me. Two, just an entire backstory of my entire life for the past five years. My mom and dad’s birthday is down here. Two sets of roses for each set of grandparents. Up here I actually had my clean date on April 25, 2012 five years on this April 25. Pretty much a lot of it resembles me, so that’s it.
Hi, my name is Erin. I’m from Minnesota and I’ve just collected tattoos over the years. My ex-husband is a tattooer and I get a lot of tattoos from him still. I have a lot of Mexican culture themed things. I lived in Mexico for a while and that’s where I met my kid’s dad. So it’s just like a day of the dead skull and this heart right here, my youngest son draws that guy a lot so I had his dad do a heart guy. I got Minnesota because I love Minnesota. I got this woman boxer because I felt like I was fighting against the world for a while. I don’t know. That’s it.
My name is Patty, and the tattoo is a bird. So I’m 44 and I’ve wanted one since I was 18, and it took me 22 years to figure out what to get. I got a bird because I’ve always loved birds, and it’s a Goldfinch, which is a bird that sings late in the Summer and also has a nest really late in its life, which is kind of what I did, because I had kids late. So, that’s the significance of it, which I didn’t really realize until I picked that bird. I was like, “Oh, of course!”
